A Support

A specific space, like a piece of paper, a canvas, a wall, a white cube exhibition hall, a daily life public space, can be used as a possible support of my drawing/painting. The difference between them has become a point that I am interested in and examine in my works, that is, how the drawing/painting communicates with its own environment. My drawing/painting starts with my observation of surroundings. An interesting landscape, a building, etc., can be an object I describe. I might just pass by it during my daily life or on a trip. And it only becomes a little fragrant in my memory. Or I might be obsessed by it, put myself into it. Using drawing/painting to record it is a way for me to be a part of it, and to feel its details, or a way to possess it. When I put it on a paper or a canvas, it then starts a conversation with its new space. The conversation can end up here, or can possibly start from here. In the piece of “Moving Greyscale”, I chose a wall with windows facing the streetscape, as the support of my painting, was to try to open a dialogue. A dialogue brings a subtle relationship between the landscape in the painting, the structure of the interior space, the changing of sunlight and the streetscape. As the landscape itself, it never stays at a certain greyness.
